Galway Races 2013

I absolutely love this festival and this festival has been very good to DermoTipping - and this year as well as offering our usual Top Tips, Seanie Gleeson (@Spinitg) is on board to do a daily accumulator. The man is a legend on twitter having landed countless bets.

Seanie Gleeson (@Spinitg)  Daily Accumulator

Today Seanie has gone for a trixie (e/w) and a €1 euro (€4 Stake) lands €1090 - If this lands Seanie will be the toast to all of us.

 Trixie (e/w):

King Of The Picts 17.10 Galway 6/1

Digeanta 18.45 Galway 14/1

Quinine 19.15 Galway 8/1

These famous colours may go in again
Usually a competetive opener to this brilliant festival and despite threats coming from all angles Diplomat should be hard to beat.

He was given a pipe opener two weeks under Ruby at Roscommon and really never batted an eyelid that day. The plan always revolved solely around today and it is easy to see the famous Dermot Weld camp celebrating another Ballybrit win.

This horse does not lack speed at all having beaten the Cheltenham winner Our Conor on the flat in his younger years.

Dangers are a plenty and I feel King of the Picts will be the most problematic to face for our selection. He won with a great aplomb for Pat Shanahan
and Andrew MacNamara in a decent race last time. Connections really like this horse and maybe an each way bet would be wise - or a reverse forecast like I will be doing with the favourite.

I watched Ruby cajole a winner last week at Killarney and with the form he's in and the connections he's representing Diplomat should be winning this and winning it well.

  • 4 pts win Diplomat 7/4
  •
  • Prediction  1rst Diplomat - 2nd King Of The Picts . Reverese Forecast 1 pts

17:40 Sean 'The Budgie' Burgess Memorial Handicap Hurdle

An extremely tricky affair this is, it is difficult to be confident about any of these as equally it is to rule any of them out.  I have gone for two of these each way.

Wither Hills (right falling) should have more luck today
Wither Hills: I get the feeling this horse has a major handicap like this in him - he won a big field handicap in great fashion at Kilbeggan in May and his last run was better than it looked. I really feel he was given an awful ride that day and today that will not happen with the champion jockey Davy Russel in the saddle. 14/1 just hits me as being way too big a price.

Paddy Kennedy could Habesh a great day
Habesh: This horse could win this race and equally could finish last! He ran a good race at the Cheltenham festival when trying to make all and just petering out towards the end. We can forget his last two runs and If you look at previous form at Listowel he had some very decent three olds well behind in a 3yo hurdle race. At 16/1 he is worth a small each way bet..

  • 1pts e/w Wither Hills 14/1
  •  1pts e/w Habesh 16/1

3 pts win Mustajeeb S.P

18:45 Connacht Hotel Amateur Handicap (E/W of the Day)

Shadow eile (Middle Green) should uoset here
Another tough race to dissect and I've no doubt that after last year the Dermot Weld trained runner will attract support but I just feel there is alternatives and Shadow Eile is that for me..

This race is next to impossible to give a confident vote in - but our selection is a tough mare and should be close come the finish.

I was reeled in due to the fact that she will love conditions, has won twice at the track in the past and really is a very consistent horse bar her last two runs where they were too bad to be true!

Cry for the moon was 2nd last year and should run very well again under the brilliant Derek O'Connor.
Shadow Eile's trainer trainer Mrs DA Love has had a tremendous year after winning the Irish national and may have another reason to celebrate here.

  • 2 pts e/w Shadow Eile 18/1 (Each Way of the Day)
  • 1pts e/w Cry For The Moon 12/1
