Aintree Grand National Meeting
Big Race of the day: Betfred Bowl Chase 14.30 (Nap)
Typically intriguing contest here - and It is a race that centres around the unlucky Silvianico Conti. I just feel however that after such a crashing fall that he may be one to take on and if he does not perform the ever improving First Lieutenant will pick up the pieces. He has been the nearly horse this year - finishing second behind Bobs Worth in the English Hennessy and then a fast finishing fourth in the Irish Hennessy behind Tidal Bay and then second also behind the very impressive Cue Card at Cheltenham. this horse is due a big win and he may get just that today.
His price is just too big and with man of the moment Bryan Cooper on board, this could be one of the races of the festival.
- 3 pts win First Lieutenant 10/3
- Prediction 1rst First Lieutenant - 2nd Silvianico Conti - 3rd Giant Bolster
Aintree Hurdle 15.05
You will struggle to find a harder race to crack - with so many horses at a similar level. However at the prices I just feel Thousand Stars is the best priced horse in the field.
The rest of these horse come here on the back of a Cheltenham run - my selection comes here a fresh horse and also having been trained with just this race in mind. The extended distance has always suited him and he may finally win his big race, having been just touched off the last two years by Oscar Whiskey. The brilliant Paul Townend takes the ride.
Oscar Whiskey really detested Cheltenham - so I think a Rfc with Thousand Stars is a possibility also..
- 2 pts e/w Thousand Stars 10/1
- .5pts rfc Thousand stars and Oscar Whiskey
17.25 Handicap hurdle
A great race to finish day one of the festival and this really is a typical handicap - its anyones race. It may just pay to side with Ericht and Ely Brown.
Ericht comes here in rude health - with two good wins and an unlucky at Cheltenham he may just be one to follow and at a very nice price. Barry Geraghty sticks with him in this and if he sees out the 3 miles he will hard to catch. his mark has stayed at a decent rate and he is definitely one to follow at least each way.
Ely Brown is another to come here in good health having beaten Holywell (winner at the festival) over course and distance and also having his mark uncanged from the festival. He will act on the ground and it is interesting that Kielan Woods is reunited.- 1 pts e/w Ericht 11/1
- 1pts e/w Ely Brown 20/1
