Punchestown Day Three

                                                                  Hurdle 15.40

Tough race to read with Marito likely to come in for support  -  but I just feel Mad Brian's run last time out was too bad to be true and the fact that his small stable believe he is good enough to cope in this company is very interesting.

He was very impressive when slamming the capable champagne agent on similar ground at Navan and was a very close second before this to morning assembly (winner yesterday) - so the form is definitely in the book. I am keen to draw a line through his last run as he just did not get involved at all.

All in all he looks the one to be on each way in my eyes and I will be backing him all the way - the jockey is an amateur but has rode him in all his races thus far.

  • 1 pts e/w Mad Brian 10/1

Handicap Chase 16.15

  • 1 pts e/w A Fine Young Man 12/1

Cross Country 16.50

  • 2 point win Arabella Boy 9/2

World Series Hurdle 17.30 (Nap)

This race really looks to be a race to whet the appetite. This years renewal is all the more
interesting as Solwhit arrives as a real contender  and with the talented duo of Holywell and Reve De Sivola here also.

However I just feel that Quevega is unopposable at odds against. She handles the ground, won so well at Cheltenham and comes into this a relatively fresh horse. There can be no doubt that Solwhit is the first real contender to Big Bucks next year, but he has had a hard year and with the ground being soft to heavy the miles on the clock may just add up.

The simple fact remains that she has not been beaten since May 2009 in Auteuil in France and I just don't feel today will be any different.

I am massively confident in Quevega - how she could be 13/8 is beyond me.

  • 5pts win (max) Quevega 13/8

18.05 Handicap Hurdle

  • 1 pt e/w Acapulco Bay 10/1
  • 1pts e/w Bat Masterson 14/1

18.40 Novices Chase (N.B)

A cracker of a race here for me - A real proper grade one contest with many of these capable of winning. I just see Benefficent prevailing though with his form being boosted after his brilliant festival win.
He was a massively tenacious winner at the festival holding off the vastly talented Dynaste and proving he has a massive reserve of stamina having come off the bridle early. Dynaste (2nd) and Captain Conan (5th) both went on and won at Aintree - the form is well and truly rock solid.

Bailey Green hated Aintree and ran no sort of a race - he is still talented and is one to follow again at nice odds of 9/1.

I am massively confident in Benefficent - but would recommend a reverse forecast with Bailey Green also.

  • 3pts win Benefficent 4/1
  • 1pts e/w Bailey Green 9/1
  • .5rfc both

19.45 National Hunt Flat

  • 1 pts win Captain Cutter S.P
