Punchestown 2013

Big Race of the day: Punchestown Gold Cup 17.30

What a race we have in store here - basically a repeat of the Gold Cup with only Bobs Worth missing, but a horse who may surprise them all is First Lieutenant.

He gave this blog a great win at Cheltenham - when winning well in the Aintree Bowl from Menorah and the very promising Sylviaico Conti - finally seeming to fulfil his vast potential. He goes into the race in fine spirits and despite the fact he has been well travelled he could surprise a few here!

Sir De Champs ran a blinder at Cheltenham but like Champagne Fever may feel the effects of his Gold Cup exertions, as I expect Long Run too and if they under perform the ultra consistent First Lieutenant will pick up the pieces.

His price is just too big and with man of the moment Bryan Cooper on board, this could be one of the races of the festival.

Punchestown Next best bet of the day: Hurdle 16.20

A real tough race to sort out - with a rare Irish runner from the Richard Lee stable and two from the Mullins stable but I feel Viconte Du Noyer should thrive on the dead ground and finish off best of these.

He won a very hot maiden in Autueil in France in the heavy ground last year, a race in which the talented Blood Cotil was 5th - ground similar to what he will be running on tomorrow. Gassin Golf and Call me Bubbles are formidable but I find it most interesting that Mullins has kept him for today and if today is a going day for him he will have the stamina for these.
.
Andrew Lynch is one of the best on the circuit in Ireland and if he has a willing partner our selection could well win and win well!

  • 2 pts win Viconte Du Noyer 11/4
  • .5pts rfc Viconte Du Noyer and Gassin Golf

                                                     Handicap Chase 18.40 E/W

A real typical irish Handicap here with so many horse and each of them capable of winning this but Canaly will love the ground and could well come out on top here..

He has won over course and distance and has won over fences already also - he comes into this in good spirits and if you are willing to forgive his last run - He could well be the one to follow. A lot of the others have the potential to win this - of the others Klepht is the one that interests me most - he has a handicap in him!.
