Punchestown Day 1

Yesterday was a great day again and all the excitement turns towards Punchestown -  but what a terrible day one it appears to be with little value on show - so one selection (N.B) will come from Towcester.

I cannot see Sizing Europe or Sir Des Champs being beaten - but both are too short for me to get involved.
..

 Nap Of The Day

Alderwood (Green and Yellow) may surprise.

The 16.20 Novices Hurdle at Punchestown is a lively looking contest ,but a horse who may just surprise the strong favourite here is Alderwood .

The horse has simply been a revelation for connections in 2011/2012 - winning so well when hampered in a messy County Hurdle at Cheltenham and winning from the front in a hurdle at Fairyhouse at easter. He has shown pure guts - this being the main reason why I am taking a chance with him over Trifolium today. His guts along with the messy ground could turn into a fight to the line - and Alderwood is all heart.

I really do think that Trifolium is going to be a top hurdler next year, but I just think on this ground he may be held.

Any horse with the champ Tony McCoy on its back has to be feared and Tony Mullins has been in good form - it could be another win for McManus over Gigginstown.

4/1 should be taken

Next Best Bet Of The Day:

Hopefully Lucy alexander will be laughing today also.

A horse who has been knocking on the door with a while now and may finally open it is Around A Pound in  the 18.50 Conditional Handicap at Towcester.

He travelled sweetly last time out and went straight into my notebook when finishing second over further as he just did not get home and it appears connections have found the perfect oppurtunity today. He is reduced in trip and has been given cheekpieces to keep his mind on the job and if he reproduces his last run he will be hard to beat, given that the ground will be no problem..

Lucy Alexander has been booked which is a good sign of connections confidence - as she is the top conditional in England in my eyes.

Odds of 3/1 are generous

Each Way Bet Of The Day:

Scottish Boogie (red) could show up and surprise
The 16.55 Handicap hurdle at Punchestown is a nice looking contest with a few talented sorts, but a horse who has been eased into this and may finally fulfil his potential is Scottish Boogie .

He was well fancied for the Boylesports hurdle at Christmas but absolutely flopped, finishing a whole 53 lengths behind Citizenship - but I believe that was too bad to be true and as his last two runs show he can be a factor in this race. He has had two promising runs on the flat since and if in the mood today can go very well, off a low weight.

Charles Byrnes will definitely have this horse in the mood for this and has booked a decent jockey for the job.

12/1 should be taken
